Hillary’s Legal Adviser: ‘Time To Lawyer Up”

(This article first appeared in the New York Post.)

One of the Clintons’ oldest and most trusted legal advisers has urged Hillary to hire a criminal defense attorney to represent her in case she’s indicted for mishandling classified documents on her private e-mail server and for lying under oath.

The adviser, who has been a Clinton confidant for more than 30 years, laid out his concerns about Hillary’s legal exposure in a wide-ranging interview.

“This e-mail thing is spiraling out of control,” he said. “To paraphrase John Dean of Watergate fame, it’s a cancer on her candidacy.  ”Frankly,” he continued, “I am used to my advice on legal matters being taken very seriously and acted upon by the Clintons. I’ve told them repeatedly that this FBI e-mail investigation could go in a very dangerous direction very quickly.

“I think Bill takes the matter seriously. But Hillary is still acting as though it’s a political smear job by right-wing zealots.”

In separate phone conversations with Bill and Hillary, the adviser said he warned them that Justice Department prosecutors handling Hillary’s case expect the FBI probe to wrap up much sooner than expected—maybe as soon as the end of this year.

His advice to Hillary: lawyer up now before it’s too late.

“Hillary needs to secure the services of an expert legal counsel—preferably a big-league defense attorney from the Republican side of the aisle,” the adviser said. “She needs someone to find out whether the FBI and Justice Department are likely to conclude that she’s violated federal laws governing national security.”

The Clinton confidant said that his advice has met a lot of resistance among members of Hillary’s campaign staff. But Hillary has been the biggest problem. He described her as being in a state of denial.

He said he was “tearing my hair out” over Hillary’s defiance of his advice, her insistence that the email controversy was all about politics, and her tendency to joke about the whole thing.

“By joking about her email problem and treating it like a PR issue, she’s only hurting herself, maybe mortally, with the prosecutors,” the adviser said. “Insulting career FBI and Justice Department investigators is a very bad and ill-advised strategy.

“You don’t want to be blindsided,” he continued. “And if you ignore it, pretend it is a partisan ploy, and act scornfully, it will blindside you.”

During one of his conversations with the Clintons, the discussion turned to the fate of former CIA director David Petraeus, who avoided criminal charges for mishandling classified material by pleading guilty to a misdemeanor.

Hillary rejected the comparison between her and Petraeus.

“Petraeus wasn’t running for president when he cut a deal with the prosecutors,” she said. “If I admit any kind of guilt—even to a minor wrongdoing—it will sink my chances of winning the nomination.”

But the adviser argued that she had to take that chance.

“Hopefully, the FBI will determine Hillary’s behavior does not amount to a criminal matter, and that she hasn’t violated the letter of the law with security breaches,” he said. “I hope that will be the outcome.

“But from what I know of the case, Hillary is extremely vulnerable. There is going to be blood in the water. The investigators are looking for weak links to get to the bottom of what went on with Hillary’s national security emails. And I’m afraid they will find it.”

Innocent until proven guilty. That is the law in America.

It is only pundits like you who want to make dire predictions about Hillary and criminal conduct.
    It is BS.
    She committed no crimes.
She didn’t share secrets with unauthorized personnel like Petraeus did.
Stop the nonsense until you can say “is” indicted not “may be” or possibly” or some say…

I do not think she should do anything additional, especially now that Rep. McCarthy has verified that Benghazi is a political smear campaign. Her demeanor has always been a problem and her getting warmer and showing her sense of humor is a good thing. She has been blind-sided ever since her husband was elected and she has built up too much of a defense curtain. I wish she had won in 2008, but now is as good as ever.

Hillary has too many emails she had deleted. Who knows what was in those. She needs to go to PRISON. AND NOT A HOME ARREST LIKE MARTHA STEWART. SHE NEEDS TO GO TO A PRISON WITH REGULAR PEOPLE. NOT A PRISON FOR RICH PEOPLE THAT’S LIKE A HOTEL.

Hilery continues to prove that she does not know a lie from the truth. It is beyond do my wildest imagination how anyone could even begin to think that this person who continues to lie could hold the position of the presidency of our great country. The entire world is already laughing at us. If she is elected she will only continue pulling our country down the drain. Every time she opens her mouth the lie gets bigger and the liberal press continues th keep the lies hidden. I pray that people wake up and start asking for the truth to come out.

Like her or not there will be a huge firestorm if her candidacy is derailed over this issue. It will be viewed as a political “assassination” by those who believe rightly or wrongly that it is time for a female Presidency. By analogy, imagine if Obama’s horse had been shot out from under him on his way to winning the nomination, especially if he had been the clear front runner.

I truly trust that the citizens of the US will WAKE UP!!! Like the Canadian Mayor that refused to take Pork off the school menu to please the immigrant, he added, you moved here to improve your way of life and we refuse to change our traditions for you. If you are not ok with that pack up and return to the Muslim country you came from… Why don’t our leaders have the BALLS to stand up for our country like they should, especially with all the damage they have done in our country over the past 20 or so years, not to mention taking over our government and the white house.. We cannot continue to Cow down to EVERYONE else and their desires and ignore the TRUE CITIZENS OF THE U.S. It is hi time we ignore the Politically Correct and stand up for OUR RIGHTS. Has everyone already forgot 9-11… I haven’t…….

Hillary is a snake in the grass. I believe she thinks she is God and cannot do any wrong. Obama has done everything possible to destroy the middle class people and if Hillary goes in (in which she will not) she will continue in the same path. I feel sorry for the people that vote for her.

She’s a BAD example to have running for the highest office in America.. She’s EVIL, DISHONEST, & “we the people” deserve JUSTICE, by her arrogance, over the whole Benghazi cover up & the breach of security, is just the beginning of her involvement, with what REALLY happened, in Benghazi!!! She & Obama, deserve PRISON, for TREASON!!! Get her off her high horse & treat her & Obama like the CRIMINALS they ARE!!!

Hillary is a “leaky” boat. No integrity, in fielding her problems, world issues and domestic issues. I agree with William. The Clintons are very, very evil.

She and her husband should have been banished from the political scene long ago. Their presence confirms the corrupt atmosphere surrounding politics in this day and age.

Hillary does not have my vote!! I would love to see a woman as president but she will NOT get my vote simply due to gender. I don’t want another Obama situation. Sorry!
